My Morning Routine

I think having a morning routine is extremely important. It’s what sets you up to have a successful day. Success being whatever goals you had planned for the day and accomplishing them. Starting off the day with a morning routine is telling yourself that you are important. That your health and well being are a priority to you.

It can be difficult to get started with a morning routine if you don’t currently have one in place. I remember a time when I woke up reactive to the world and was always rushing in the morning to get places. It took a lot of consistent action and patience with myself before I was truly able to form the morning habits that I wanted to do. So, if you’re starting from zero, don’t worry! Just take it slow and start with one new habit at a time. Master your life one day at a time.

In my morning, I like to focus on three things: Mindset, Exercise and Diet.

It’s just like the theme of my blog and YouTube channel. I feel like doing something for each of these sections helps to put you in the most positive headspace for the day. It prepares you to be your best that day and ready for whatever life may throw at you. Of course, you can create your morning around what you believe is the best for you. I’m only sharing what I’m doing with my morning now. I actually do change up my morning routine quite a bit. It all depends on what my current goals are. If I want to lose weight, I’ll make more time for exercise. If my diet is a concern, I’ll focus on adding in different foods and trying new recipes to help with my well being. If I’m feeling low or having too many negative thoughts, I’ll do longer sessions of meditation and add in reading a book in the morning. Like I said, it all really depends on my goals at the time.

So, don’t be too strict with yourself. If you don’t get everything you want accomplished in a morning, don’t sweat it! Tomorrow is always there for you to pick right back up and try it again. The hardest thing I had to deal with used to be sticking with my morning routine on weekends. I would drink a lot and become so lazy in the morning that I would skip it all together. Then when Monday would roll around, I’d push myself to get back into it and struggle. I’d beat myself up about it and be so hard on myself. It was not a good time for me, but I continued with trying to make it work. Eventually, I improved and that’s because I choose to never give up on myself.

I’m really happy with my routine right now. If you have been following me, you’ll know that I currently moved. Moving always messes up my routines, but it’s been a month now and I have gotten back in flow. This is the quickest since moving that I have been able to get back in flow. So, I’m proud of myself. 😊

Alright, let’s get into this routine:

I begin by waking up early. I like to wake up between 5:30AM and 7AM. I find this is the best time for self care because people aren’t usually up at this time and everything feels so peaceful. You can just focus on what you need to do. I used to use an alarm clock to wake me up at this time, but now I just naturally awake early. I would love to be woken up by the sun, but unfortunately my new bedroom doesn’t get enough light. I actually saw on the show “Queer Eye”, this alarm clock that wakes you up by gradually getting brighter and brighter. I saw one on amazon that I’m thinking about getting: Sun Alarm Clock

When I wake up, so does Gucci. Gucci sleeps in the bed with me. When I had first gotten him, I tried to crate train him. I perched up the crate next to my bed and placed my hand near him, so he would stop whining. By the middle of the night, he jumped out of his crate and was sleeping on my pillow. He’s just so cute and tiny, I couldn’t say no to him! Anyway, now he sleeps by my feet and jumps over to me when he can tell I’ve awoken. This is when we have our morning cuddles and kisses and it really does put me in the best mood ever. This is the same as smiling first thing when you wake up. It releases endorphins and makes you naturally feel good.

Once Gucci calms down, I begin meditating. I like to find guided meditations or meditation music on YouTube and put my Gold Beats Solo3 Headphones on as I listen. Sometimes if my thoughts are too overpowering, I start chanting. I use the one I learnt from Deepak Chopra. It’s “so” on the inhale and “hum” on the exhale. “So” meaning “I am” and “Hum” meaning “that”.

The meditation I am currently listening to is this one: World’s most POWERFUL Guided Meditation to Manifest Money 🌟I Am Affirmations 🌟 Binaural Beats 🌟

This actually goes into my next step, which is affirmations. All last month, I have been listening to that meditation above. It combines a guided meditation along with affirmations. I feel affirmations are important. You are affirming to the universe who you are and what you want to attract into your life. I like to listen to affirmations often. I remember when I had first decided to lose weight years ago, I started to use the treadmill daily. I did a light uphill jog at home on the treadmill for about an hour everyday while listening to affirmations. I repeated them in my mind as they were said.. They made me feel like I was confident and capable. Like I could accomplish my goal which at the time was to lose weight. Spoiler alert: it worked! 😊

Next, I drink a glass of water. You get dehydrated while you sleep, so its good to make sure you get water first thing in the morning. I find that it gets rid of the stiffness and grogginess. I feel a bit more alert and awake and am now ready to get out of bed.

Of course, Gucci now expects me to deal with his needs first lol. He gets so excited, when I say, “are you ready to go outside”, his ears perk up and then he jumps off the bed. This is why I really love having a backyard that he can play in. It’s fenced and I feel like he is safe there. Before I had to keep an eye on him, now I let him out then go to the bathroom to brush my teeth, wash my face, etc.

I’ve mentioned in an older post: My Skin Issues and the Miracle Product That Helped Me, that I use apple cider vinegar on my face. So, right after I wash my face, I use apple cider vinegar as a toner, allow it to dry, then put on moisturizer. I stopped using this treatment for about a week and my face started to break out again. I won’t make that mistake again!

So, if you ever watch my Instagram Story, you’ll know that I spoon feed my dog his breakfast. I actually like bonding with him this way, so stop judging me lol! It’s definitely become a habit that won’t change. After he eats, I brush his teeth. Now, I can get back to focusing on me.

Depending on if I’m hungry or not, I will have breakfast either before or after my workout. I used to eat the same meal every morning, but lately I’ve changed to something new. The old thing was just granola, fruit and yogurt. You can see the meal prep recipe for this here: BREAKFAST MEAL PREP: Fruit, Granola & Yogurt. Now, I’m really into smoothies. I started making this awesome Mocha Almond Banana Smoothie that is so yummy! I will be sharing that recipe with you soon!

Time to work out! For a few months now I have been following a workout program that I saw advertised on Instagram called “VShred”. I actually really like this workout. It was cold out at the time, so having a home workout program that you could follow along with daily really fit into my lifestyle. I have been switching up my workouts since moving though. Sometimes I do yoga, other times I use the treadmill, or I do one of those above mentioned workouts. Totally depends on my mood. Also, now that the weather is better, I like taking Gucci for walks in the morning.

Since I only work in the evenings, I have a quite a bit of time in the morning to get in what I need to do. I like having a schedule like this because I find that I am the most creative and energized during the day. After I workout, I shower and get ready for my work day. I am now mentally and physically prepared to conquer my day!

As you know, my second job is trying to build an online business. So, when I’m ready, I sit at my office desk and journal. This is where I let out all my fears and anxieties and then motivate myself to get my goals accomplished. Then I get to work on what ever needs to be done that day.

So, there you have it. That is currently my morning routine and it is subject to change the more I learn about what works best for me. I’d love to hear what your morning routine looks like. Leave me a comment below!
