Why Self Care Is Important

Sometimes, we get so wrapped up in our work life that we forget to make time for self-care. I know I struggled with this a lot last year. At one point, I was working two jobs pretty much 7 days a week, trying to keep up with my morning & night routine, and attempting to build my online presence. Needless to say, I was exhausted and overwhelmed. I decided this year would be different. This year I am going to carve out more time for self-care and relaxation. I am currently in Cabo, at my friends’ vacation home, staring at the beautiful ocean as I write this. I couldn’t feel more relaxed and at peace.


What Is Self Care?

Self-care isn’t just about relaxing, but it’s about making the time to do the things that are important to you. Our emotional health is just as important as our physical health. If we aren’t making the time to do the things that make us happy then what’s the point? Even though self-care may seem like an indulgent behaviour, what it does is reassure you that you are important to yourself. That your needs and maintaining a healthy relationship with yourself are important to you. Taking care of your self is your responsibility and the benefits you receive from it is definitely worth it!

How Does Self Care Benefit You?

Carving out just a little bit of time each day for self-care can help you to love yourself and your experience here on Earth that much more. It also boosts your self-esteem and confidence because you are now focusing on the things that you actually want to do. You are actively choosing what’s right for you. Most importantly, you are learning that it’s okay to make choices for yourself that make you feel good. Self-care can be anything from pampering yourself, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, eating healthy, starting a new hobby or learning a new language. It’s anything you do that helps you to feel de-stressed and relaxed. So, take a break from stress, be alone for some self-reflection and create a happier version of yourself!


 Self Care Steps You Can Do Today:

  1. Read a book (I love anything self-help related, here’s the book I’m reading above: Do What You Love, The Money Will Follow)
  2. Go for a long walk in nature
  3. Get a massage
  4. Take a bubble bath
  5. Start journaling
  6. Spend time with a loved one
